Daddy's voice
What makes the sound of your Daddy's voice so recognizable? Is it the sound of his voice? The way he says certain words? Perhaps it's his southern accent that has a funny twang. In any case, the sound of out Fathers voice sticks out. You could be in a room full of loud talking people but you know the crack of his voice when you hear it. He doesn't even have to be the loudest one in the room but to you, he's all you hear.
As I study the gospels, I find a common theme in the life of Christ on how he lives "the Christian life".
49 For I have not spoken on My own authority; but the Father who sent Me gave Me a command, what I should say and what I should speak. 50 And I know that His command is everlasting life. Therefore, whatever I speak, just as the Father has told Me, so I speak.” - John 12:49-50
9 Then Jesus answered and said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner. - John 5:19
Jesus lived by His Fathers authority. It seems simple enough but one thing Jesus knew that most of us miss on this journey is what does Daddy's voice sound like? It's not because God has a communication issue with us, it's that sound that we don't recognize as daddy's voice that we have lost.
Notice, I said recognize, I didn't say that we don't hear our Father.
It's like being that Child in the large room of talking people. You're trying to find daddy but you forgot what his voice sounds like or maybe you hear someone that you think is him only to find out later that it never was him in the first place. What a traumatizing place to be as a child? The feeling of unprotection, hopelessness, and loss.
Let me say again. We do not have a problem hearing, but a problem recognizing. Big difference.
27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: - John 10:27
Don't let anyone tell you that you can't hear Daddy's voice. If you are born-again, you hear the Father. We build cult's and cause damage when we fail to release people independently hear the Father. How do some of us recognise the Father? For many of us, we have been told that God's voice is loud and condemning. He is that guilty feeling you get when you look back on what you have done wrong.
My response to this is that this is not how Jesus demonstrated God as Father. It's not the way Jesus recognized the voice of his Father and it's a lie.
How can we recognize our Daddy's voice?
1. God's voice is affirming
17 And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” - Matthew 3:17
16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together. - Romans 8:16-17
2. God's voice leads to peace.
15 And let the peace of God rule (Umpire) in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful. - Colossians 3:15
3. God's voice drowns out the voice of fear.
18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love. - 1John 4:18
I want to sign off with a video to demonstrate how simple hearing the Fathers voice should be. This is a beautiful picture of a Child who know's her daddy!
